Facelift

A facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that creates a younger face by reducing ageing signs of the face. It can minimize the sagging or folds of skin on the cheeks and jaw line creating a younger appearance. During a facelift, a flap of skin on each side of the face is pulled back, and tissues below the skin are surgically altered to return the contour of the face to a more youthful shape. Before the flap is sutured closed, excess skin is removed. Quite often, a necklift follows the facelift in order to reduce sagging skin and ageing signs on the neck.It is important to notice that a facelift does not improve the elasticity and collagen concentration of the skin.

The incisions for the procedure depend on the techniques that will be used.

A traditional face-lift incision starts at the temples in the hairline, continues down and around the front of the ears and ends behind them. An incision might be made under the chin to improve the appearance of the neck. A limited face lift incision is a shorter incision that begins in the hairline just above the ears and wraps around the front of them, but does not extend all the way behind them.

A face-lift can be done in a hospital or an outpatient surgical facility. Duration of the procedure is approximately two to four hours depending on the type of the surgical intervention. It can be done under local anesthesia and IV sedation or general anesthesia. In the post operative period, swelling and bruising of the operation sites can be noticed.

In the first post operative week two or three assessments will be done by the plastic Surgeon and stitches will be removed at approximately 6-8 days after the operation.
