Endodontic treatment
Endodontic or root canal treatment is the optimum way to treat infections in the root of the tooth. Every tooth has small canals in its centre where nerves and blood vessels supply it, representing the living part of the tooth.
Certain conditions as severe delayed tooth infection, cracks and trauma cause bacteria in growth and infection in the canal system that lead to abscess formation.
Endodontic treatment consists of removing the infected pulp from the canals, disinfecting the entire canal system of the tooth and sealing it with proper biocompatible materials. The tooth is then reconstituted either with a coronary filling or a crown. In this way the infected dead tooth is being preserved avoiding unnecessary extraction.
The procedure is being done under local anesthesia and usually requires 1 or 2 visits. In most cases the use of anti inflammatory medication is needed.
