Blepharoplasty

The area of the eyelids is one of the most important aesthetic units of the face. With the passage of time, the eyelid skin relaxes; the muscles and the cortical diaphragm are weakened, resulting in the appearance of fat, wrinkles and “bags” on the eyelids. These changes give people a “tired” look. Furthermore, severely sagging skin around the eyes can reduce the side vision (peripheral vision), especially the upper and outer parts of the field of vision.

Blepharoplasty is a surgical operation that aims to eliminate or improve the above issues by removing fat combined with skin and muscle from the eyelids.

Preoperative, as in all surgical operations, the patient must provide a detailed medical history with all the necessary information. The Plastic Surgeon then will provide the patient with specific recommendations depending on his medical condition, monthly medication and other factors that affect the result of the procedure.

Blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia combined with IV sedation in order to relax. Postoperatively, the patient stays in a recovery room for monitoring of the vital signs and post surgery evaluation. After a few hours the patient is usually discharged.
